Colombia Launches Regulated Keno, First in Latin America to Use Blockchain for Ticket Issuance

(AsiaGameHub) -   Colombia's newly regulated gambling offering is among the first in Latin America to leverage blockchain technology for issuing game tickets. Colombia.- Starting April 1, Colombia's gambling regulator has overseen the launch of keno as a newly regulated vertical in the country's gambling market. The game will be offered across the nation by four operators, and is projected to contribute roughly COP 500 billion (€118m) to the country's subsidized health system over the next five years. Keno tickets are available at more than 26,000 sales terminals across all 32 departments of the country. The regulator confirmed that this is one of the first regulated games in Latin America to adopt blockchain technology for ticket issuance, designed to deliver higher levels of security for players. To play, participants need to pick 10 numbers between 1 and 80 and confirm their bet amount – ticket prices range from COP 500 (€0.12) to COP 20,000 (€5.75). The game system will randomly draw 20 numbers from the full 80-number pool, then match this drawn set against the player's selection to count matching numbers. Depending on the region, live-streamed draws take place every 6 or 10 minutes. For many years, keno was only offered illegally across Colombia. Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos, shared: “We are making industry history: for the first time in a long time, Colombians will have access to a new game that, in addition to contributing to public healthcare, will award millions in prizes to bettors.” “We expect that over the next five years, this game will hit total sales exceeding COP 2.3 trillion and grow into one of the most popular games among Colombians. We encourage players to only play Keno at officially authorized locations. We have created a safe game with an attractive prize structure that is fully backed by the government. By choosing legal play, we all contribute to the health of Colombians.” This article is provided by a third-party. AsiaGameHub (https://asiagamehub.com/) makes no warranties regarding its content. Dutch Gambling Regulator Publishes New Guidelines Concerning Duty of Care Issues

(AsiaGameHub) -   The KSA has released the findings of two new studies. The Netherlands. The Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has published two new studies and provided additional guidance on how online gambling license holders can fulfill their duty of care obligations. The documents offer practical insights and clarify matters related to personal interviews and the submission of notifications for registration in the Central Register for Exclusion from Gambling (Cruks). The KSA conducted research on these topics in 2025, and the results were discussed in December during a roundtable discussion with license holders. At that time, practical experiences were shared and bottlenecks identified. Using this feedback, the KSA has now developed new guidelines to enhance clarity around implementation. Personal interviews with players The personal interview is an extensive intervention that license holders are required to implement if there is a suspicion of excessive gambling behaviour or gambling addiction. Research shows that license holders have applied this measure in varying ways and encountered challenges, such as a low response rate from players. The guidance explains, among other things, the timing of the intervention, the mode of contact, and the content of the conversation—while still leaving room for customization and professional judgment. Self-exclusion registrations The KSA emphasized that if a license holder observes serious signs of problematic gambling behaviour or suspects a gambling addiction, the player must be advised to register with Cruks. If the player does not follow this advice, the license holder must submit a notification to the KSA about the matter. The KSA may then decide to involuntarily register the player in Cruks. Research found that license holders had uncertainties about implementing this process. For instance, they noted it was difficult to verify whether a player had actually registered, and not always clear when a notification should be submitted. The new guidance provides practical explanations, including details on the timing of reporting and the required information. The KSA stressed that the guidelines do not include new rules but instead offer further clarification on the application of existing obligations. Its aim is to give license holders greater clarity on fulfilling their duty of care and to enable safer gambling, the regulator stated. Last week, the KSA issued a general notice to licensed sports betting operators to remind them of the limits of their licenses. It said its supervisory work revealed that several providers were offering bets that did not fall within the licensed sports betting category. The offerings cited included bets on prize competitions, such as a Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. The KSA stated that the involved license holders have been addressed, and these bets were immediately removed. This article is provided by a third-party. Entain Announces Plans to Close One-Third of Ladbrokes Betting Shops in Ireland

(AsiaGameHub) -   The firm had been exploring the sale of its Irish betting outlets. UK.- Just one day after Evoke announced plans to close 200 William Hill betting shops in the UK, its major London-listed rival Entain has confirmed intentions to shut more than a third of its Ladbrokes betting shops in Ireland. The company had been in talks to sell its retail network in the country but concluded those negotiations earlier this year. According to The Irish Times, 39 out of approximately 100 Ladbrokes outlets in Ireland will close, pending consultation. This could impact 226 employees, with whom formal discussions have already started. The closures are expected to be completed by the end of May 2026. Entain stated that its priority is to engage with staff throughout the consultation process and that it aims to redeploy employees wherever possible. It emphasized that it remains committed to maintaining a Ladbrokes presence in Ireland. The remaining shops are estimated to employ over 350 people. Entain had looked into a potential sale of Ladbrokes’ Irish retail portfolio to Bar One Racing. The Racing Post reported at the end of March that the negotiations had ended without an agreement. Alongside Evoke’s announcement this week, other major players have also signalled closures. In October, Flutter Entertainment announced it would shut 57 Paddy Power shops, potentially putting nearly 250 jobs at risk. Operators have often blamed the government’s decision to raise Remote Gaming Duty from 21 to 40 per cent starting April 1 as a cause for the closures. Retail betting is exempt from the tax hike, but operators draw a connection, noting they need to cut costs to absorb the tax impact. Retail betting revenue has been declining for some time. Gambling Commission figures show that gross gambling yield from retail bookmakers was down 7 per cent year-on-year to £549m between October and December 2025. Amnesty International: 12 Cambodian casinos associated with cybercrime and human rights violations

(AsiaGameHub) -   Even though the Cambodian government has recently made widely publicized claims that it is rooting out illegal online scam compounds, a new report from Amnesty International tells a different story. The international human rights organization maintains that “a dozen casinos” across Cambodia are “directly connected to scamming compounds”. Within these properties, severe crimes including “torture, forced labour, child labour and human trafficking have been carried out”. Three of these linked casinos are owned by Kok An, an alleged top cybercrime figure. The Sino-Cambodian businessman and politician, who the Thai Examiner has called the “gangster sidekick” of former prime minister and current Senate President Hun Sen, owns the Phnom Penh-based large business group Anco Brothers Co Ltd. The report, which was released Thursday, draws on official licensing paperwork from Cambodia’s Commercial Gambling Management Commission (CGMC). The documents show casino owners directly control “at least 12 separate sites” where investigators have recorded human rights violations. “Our findings back up the testimony from compound survivors, who explained they were held and abused while on casino-owned land,” the report noted. The casinos in question are reportedly based in Sihanoukville and border towns such as Poipet, which cater mostly to Thai visitors. Findings Undermine Government Claims of Cybercrime Crackdown Starting in 2025, Cambodia says it has made thousands of arrests as part of its cybercrime crackdown, targeting the notorious “pig butchering scams”. These online scams combine romance baiting and cryptocurrency fraud to target unaware victims, slowly building their trust over time. Scammers then convince victims to give up their money, usually by pushing them to invest in fake get-rich-quick schemes. Between January and February this year, Cambodia reportedly closed 190 scam centres across the whole country. This included 44 casinos accused of involvement in “fraudulent activity conducted through technological systems”. Authorities also revoked the licenses of four casinos tied to Prince Group Holdings, which is reported to run one of the largest online fraud operations in the world. At its peak, Prince Group’s scams pulled in an estimated US$30 million per day. In January, Cambodian law enforcement detained the group’s leader Chen Zhi and deported him back to his home country of China, where he faces charges of fraud, money laundering, human trafficking and torture. The CGMC said this enforcement work shows its commitment to “strengthen regulation of the commercial gaming sector … and ensure all operations are run lawfully”. Report: New Scam Centres Are Replacing Dismantled Old Ones But the Amnesty International report casts doubt on this stated commitment. Montse Ferrer, Co-Regional Director of the watchdog, said the group’s research “proves a clear connection between Cambodia’s licensed casinos and scamming compounds. At a time when the government says it is taking apart the scamming industry, evidence shows it is simultaneously approving plans for casino properties that house abusive scamming compounds.” Recently, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime praised Cambodia for stepping up its battle against cyberfraud, a growing global threat that generates an estimated US$40 billion in illegal profits every year. But Ferrer says Cambodia must do more. “If the government is serious about ending this slave-driven industry, it has to investigate every scamming compound in the country,” he said. Gibraltar grants license to first prediction markets operator in potentially divisive move Gibraltar’s government has issued a license to a prediction markets operator, making it one of the few European jurisdictions to regulate this format. The operator, Predict Street Ltd., is now listed on Gibraltar’s register of licensed betting intermediaries and is promoting itself as the “Official Prediction Market Partner of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.” This decision comes as other European countries like Germany and France have banned certain prediction platforms. While Gibraltar’s move may spark controversy, it aligns with the nation’s efforts to diversify its gambling and financial services ecosystem. The future of prediction markets in Gibraltar remains uncertain, with potential interest from major players such as Kalshi and Polymarket. The UK, a key market for Gibraltar-licensed operators, could pose challenges for prediction platforms due to existing non-sports betting options. Alberta set to launch regulated igaming market on July 13 Alberta will roll out regulated online sports betting and igaming on July 13, becoming the second Canadian province to do so after Ontario. Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally confirmed the launch date in a letter to industry stakeholders, expressing confidence in building a competitive and socially responsible market. Operators and service providers in Alberta were required to register for regulatory oversight by July 13, following amendments to the Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Regulation. The Canadian Gaming Association praised Alberta’s commitment to player protection. In Ontario, the first year of regulated igaming saw CAD$35.6 billion in wagers and $1.4 billion in gaming revenue, with continued growth in February 2026. Blask report: 83% of US igaming operators are unlicensed Blask’s analysis of the North American online gambling market reveals that offshore operators still dominate the industry in both the US and Canada, despite the presence of regulated brands. In the US, 83 percent of operators serving players are unlicensed, with $54.6 billion flowing to offshore platforms compared to $25.2 billion captured by licensed operators. Offshore brands like Bovada lead the market, while states with full sports and casino regulation—such as New Jersey and Michigan—perform better at channeling gambling activity domestically. In Canada, the online gambling market reached $9.5 billion in 2025, with offshore brands like Stake and Roobet leading the way. Ontario captures 85 percent of the regulated market, but the average monopoly province holds 76 percent of the offshore market. Alberta’s upcoming competitive market launch in 2026 could shift the balance between regulated and offshore operators in Canada. Swedish gambling regulator suggests steps operators can take to curb unlicensed gaming Sweden’s gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, has proposed practical measures for online gambling companies to block Swedish players in response to proposed amendments to the Swedish Gambling Act. Investigator Marcus Isgren suggested removing the “directional criterion” to address enforcement challenges. The new report recommends measures like geo-blocking, stop messages, and blocking bank transfers to prevent Swedish participation. Contract terms should exclude Swedish residents, and marketing channels targeting Swedish players should be avoided. The regulator emphasizes consistent application of these measures for both new and existing accounts. The goal is to give the government a clear understanding of how to reduce unlicensed gambling in Sweden. Italy’s land-based gaming reform draft set to be finalized soon The Conferenza Unificata is putting the finishing touches on an overhaul of Italy’s land-based gaming regulations, with the Council of Ministers set to release the draft decree on April 10. The reforms aim to create a unified regulatory framework, including stricter rules on operating hours and distance requirements. The new concession model will mandate minimum bids for gaming machine operations and licensing for betting shops and bingo halls. Certification, oversight, and anti-money laundering controls will be strengthened. Negotiations over tax revenue distribution have delayed the reforms, but agreements have been reached. The hope is to finalize the reforms by August 29. Concerns over declining tax revenue and the growth of the unlicensed market have driven the need for these changes. Additionally, Agcom is working to establish guidelines for responsible gambling messages. This article is provided by a third-party. The total handle reached $574.6 million, marking a 3.2 per cent rise year-over-year, though it was a decrease from January's figure of $687.9 million. Adjusted gross revenue (AGR) amounted to $53.8 million. Mobile operators reported $53.5 million in AGR, while retail operations contributed $344,924. Casino revenue for February was $95.2 million, an increase of 26.7 percent year-on-year. Slots generated $70.2 million, and table games accounted for $24.4 million. The state collected $17.1 million in taxes for the Gaming Proceeds Fund. No progress on Virginia online casino bills Virginia’s legislative session concluded in March without an agreement on a final version of proposed online casino legislation. Two bills, House Bill 161 and Senate Bill 118, differed on the allocation of tax revenue and stalled in a conference committee. These proposals may be reintroduced in a future legislative session. The House of Delegates approved HB 161 in February, one day after the Senate passed SB 118, but the houses needed to reach an agreement on a final version. Both bills aimed to legalize and regulate online gaming under the supervision of the Virginia Lottery Board. Existing casino operators would have been required to pay $2 million for a license, while online-only operators would have faced an initial licensing fee of $500,000. Play’n GO Introduces Honey Rush Black and Yellow

(AsiaGameHub) -   This latest release expands on the studio’s grid slot series with a high-volatility format that integrates cluster-based mechanics, evolving feature systems and progressive bonuses, elevated by the officially licensed track “Black and Yellow” from Wiz Khalifa to deliver a more dynamic, music-driven gaming experience. Press release.– Play’n GO is cranking up the excitement for its popular grid slot series with the launch of Honey Rush Black and Yellow. Developed as a dynamic sequel to Honey Rush 100, the new title pairs high-volatility gameplay with the iconic, officially licensed track “Black and Yellow” by Wiz Khalifa.  Play’n GO has crafted a game whose mechanics match the energy of the track’s beat. This title moves beyond traditional paylines, instead challenging players to build massive winning combinations across its unique layout.  Gameplay unfolds on a 7-reel hexagonal grid utilising a Cluster Pays system, where 5 or more adjacent symbols trigger a win. Winning clusters fill the progressive RUSH meter, unlocking the Drone, Worker, and Queen Colony features. These features clone the centre symbol to create massive new clusters ranging from 7 to 37 symbols. During play, Walking Wilds can land with multipliers up to 3x. These Wilds remain sticky and shift to a new position on the grid after every winning cascade. Additionally, non-winning Cash Symbols are collected into an animated Bee alongside the grid, which can randomly trigger an Instant Cash Bonus awarding Mini, Minor, Major, or Grand prizes.  Magnus Wallentin, games ambassador at Play’n GO, said: “When you secure a track as recognisable as Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Black and Yellow’, you have to build an experience that matches its energy. A great soundtrack like that deserves some explosive mechanics. This exceptional soundtrack, along with our evolving RUSH meter and shifting multipliers, quite literally brings an entirely fresh rhythm to the series.” This article is provided by a third-party. (AsiaGameHub) -   Entain is preparing to shut down more than a third of its Ladbrokes betting shops in Ireland, following reports that it has abandoned negotiations to sell its entire retail portfolio in the region. As first reported by The Irish Times, Entain has confirmed it will close 39 of its roughly 100 Irish Ladbrokes locations, accounting for over 33% of its local estate. These closures put 226 jobs at risk, pending the outcome of a consultation process. The company has initiated formal consultations with the affected staff and expects to finalize the closures by the end of May 2026. A representative for Ladbrokes stated to iGB: “We regularly assess our retail operations to ensure the business remains financially viable and competitive. “Our current focus is on working constructively with our team members throughout the consultation period, with a strong emphasis on finding redeployment opportunities wherever possible. Ladbrokes remains dedicated to the Irish market and to maintaining a sustainable retail presence.” Following these closures, Ladbrokes will continue to operate 66 shops in Ireland, employing over 350 people. Rumoured collapse of Ladbrokes retail estate sale Last year, Entain engaged in talks with Bar One Racing regarding a potential divestment of its Irish retail betting business. However, as reported by The Racing Post on 31 March, those discussions ended without a deal. Regarding the decision, the spokesperson added: “Closing these shops in the Republic of Ireland is not a step we take lightly. It is a response to persistent cost pressures, long-term shifts in consumer habits, and the increasing competitive threat posed by the unlicensed sector.” The reduction of Ladbrokes’ retail footprint reflects a broader trend across the betting and gaming industry in the UK. Just this week, Evoke informed employees of plans to close approximately 200 of its UK retail outlets in May, citing a strategic review and the recent increase in remote gaming duty. Additionally, last October, Flutter Entertainment announced the closure of 57 Paddy Power shops, which placed nearly 250 jobs at risk of redundancy. These UK retail closures were anticipated following the government’s announcement that remote gaming duty would rise from 21% to 40%, effective as of this Wednesday. Having experienced stagnation in recent years, the UK retail betting market is now bearing the brunt of these measures as operators look to mitigate the impact of the tax hike. Booming Games launches Ultra Buffalo Hold and Win

(AsiaGameHub) -   Featuring a 5×3 grid and 20 fixed paylines, the slot has a top win potential of 5,000x the stake. Press release.- Booming Games announced the launch on April 2 of Ultra Buffalo Hold and Win, an energetic new slot set on the plains. The game features a standard 5×3 grid with 20 fixed paylines and a maximum win of 5,000x. It is presented against a desert backdrop with vivid animal symbols such as buffalo, eagles, and wolves. Designed to deliver intense action for high-stakes players, the game is packed with bonus features available on any spin. Triggering the Buffalo Bonus Wheel with three Bonus symbols on reels one, three, and five awards a free spin. The wheel can land on Grand, Major, Minor, or Mini prize pots, or activate an enhanced Ultra mode that adds two extra rows. Additionally, the Wild Buffalo Herd feature can occur randomly, transforming symbols into wilds and upgrading current wilds to Wild x2 to heighten anticipation. Simultaneously, hitting five or more coins activates the Ultra Hold and Win feature, which enlarges the grid to 5×8 to boost winning opportunities. Filling the expanded grid awards the Grand Prize Pot, valued at 2,000x the bet. Once the Ultra Hold and Win feature is active, players can unlock the Ultra Reel by completely filling a 1×8 reel. This leads to a climactic ending where coin values can be multiplied or added to the rows beneath, creating the chance for massive payouts up to 5000x. In line with Booming Games' strategy to enhance the quality and output of its game pipeline, the company plans to release six new titles in April. Among them are Fly On! and Fish Tales Monster Bass 10,000. Each game introduces novel features and provides maximum win potentials of 5,000x and 10,000x, respectively, catering to players looking for high-stakes entertainment. Craig Asling, Booming Games' director of games, commented: “The Ultra Hold and Win feature is a thrilling advancement of the popular Hold and Win mechanic, showcasing our dedication to top-tier gameplay. We believe players will appreciate this contemporary take on a classic, where each spin holds the possibility of significant rewards. Join the charge and experience the herd's energy now!” This article is provided by a third-party. AsiaGameHub (https://asiagamehub.com/) makes no warranties regarding its content. Altenar to Highlight Gap in Sportsbook Strategies at SiGMA South America

(AsiaGameHub) -   At the upcoming SiGMA South America event, Altenar will challenge the current industry norms, encouraging operators to shift their focus from casino-led models to sportsbook strategies that foster greater customer retention and ensure long-term market leadership. Press release.- Altenar is set to participate in SiGMA South America in São Paulo, where it will pose a crucial question to the industry: why do so many operators fail to make sportsbooks the core of their strategic planning? Despite the rapid expansion of Brazil's igaming market, numerous operators are staying within their comfort zone. Local brands predominantly depend on casino offerings, whereas international market leaders are directing more attention towards sports betting. The justification for this is evident: sportsbooks promote more profound user engagement and enhance long-term customer loyalty. Statistical evidence reinforces this trend. In its first complete year as a regulated online market, Brazil's licensed betting industry recorded R$37bn in Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR), equivalent to US$7.5bn, by the conclusion of 2025. Given these conditions, considering a sportsbook as a non-essential offering is no longer a safe strategy—it represents a significant lost business opportunity. This topic will be discussed by Co-founder and COO Dinos Stranomitis on the panel titled “The Undefined Value of Sports Betting in Brazil.” The central argument is straightforward: the future market leaders will be operators who expand their reach past casino games by fully integrating sportsbooks. Altenar's continued growth in São Paulo exemplifies this shift towards more equilibrium in operations, guided by data, with sportsbooks occupying a pivotal position. Luana Monje, a sales executive for Altenar Brazil, stated: “The pace of change in the sports betting sector exceeds the readiness of many operators. Those who prioritize sportsbooks immediately will gain an advantage in customer retention and lifetime value. The genuine danger lies in delaying serious investment for too long.” This article is provided by a third-party. AsiaGameHub (https://asiagamehub.com/) makes no warranties regarding its content. Aichi Prefecture initiates RFP process in bid for Japan integrated resort license

(AsiaGameHub) -   Japan’s Aichi Prefecture has confirmed it is once again weighing an integrated resort (IR) license bid, after unveiling a Request for Proposals (RFP) on Tuesday. During the 2023 first round of bidding, when three licenses were up for grabs, the Japanese government only reviewed two submissions. Only one of those won approval: a plan from MGM Resorts International and Orix Corp to construct an IR in Osaka. The $10.2 billion development, located on Yumeshima Island in Osaka Bay, broke ground in April 2025 and is scheduled to open in 2030. The government turned down a second bid from Casinos Austria and Nagasaki over financing-related concerns. The second bidding period will launch in 2027, with applications accepted between May 6 and November 5. Obstacles aplenty to Japan IRs It has been a decade since Japan legalized integrated resorts, following the passage of the 2016 Integrated Resort Promotion Act. In 2018, the Diet enacted legislation to define official resort zones, kicking off the competitive race. Major global gaming companies such as Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts, and Melco Resorts & Entertainment expressed interest in the market, which some analysts dubbed “the next holy grail of gaming”. Optimistic legislators hoped the first IRs would open as early as 2025. Multiple factors slowed this momentum. These included the slow, plodding pace of government deliberations, plus regulations such as caps on gaming space that operators deemed overly burdensome. The final setback came with the emergence of COVID-19, which brought all progress to a halt. Hopes for a second bidding round were reignited last December, when a new Casino Regulatory Commission held its first meeting. It also helps that Japan’s newly appointed prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, is a strong proponent of IRs. First elected last October, Takaichi is a devoted follower of the late former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who spearheaded the push for IRs as a way to boost tourism and foreign investment. Analyst: Chubu Centrair Airport site is ‘near ideal’ Aichi has described its selected development site at Chubu Centrair International Airport as “one of the world’s leading industrial clusters, boasting a diverse array of tourism resources in its surrounding region.” The prefecture’s stated goal is to build an international tourism city centered around MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events). This location ticks every necessary box, gaming analyst Andrew Klebanow told iGB. “It is practically near ideal,” he stated. “This international airport offers service to roughly 20 regional and global destinations, including Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Philippines. It’s an eight-minute walk from baggage claim to the casino site. There’s a ferry terminal behind the casino development site, next to an underutilized convention center. Oh, and there are also a couple of thousand hotel rooms that are underutilized.” Another key advantage: since the site is located at the airport on an artificial island near Nagoya, the prefectural capital, local community opposition is highly unlikely. Aichi IR could boost visitation, population Aichi initially considered submitting a bid during the first round, but ultimately pulled out due to COVID-related complications. In February, Governor Hideaki Omura signaled the prefecture’s ongoing interest in the project. Per the Yumiori Shibun, Omura stated that an IR could help counteract the prefecture’s declining population and sluggish tourism figures. “We need to make the city more appealing to prevent residents from moving away,” Omura said. “It is essential to lure people here from both in and outside Japan.” Chubu Centrair currently can serve 12 million passengers annually. It has set a target of 20 million by 2030. The local government will evaluate proposals using a 1,000-point scoring system, judging: contribution to international tourism (450 points); economic and social impact (100 points); operational capability and stability (250 points); utilisation of casino revenue (50 points); and mitigation of adverse effects from casino operations (150 points).
